On Saturday, November 11th 2000, one of America's biggest sports
network, ESPN conducted a film shoot featuring the SlamJam Women's
Basketball Classic. The shoot took place at Riverbank State Park
in Harlem, USA the official home court of the SlamJam Women's
Basketball Classic fall league. The shoot lasted approximately
four and one half hours and featured some of SlamJam's best girl
basketball players.
ESPN began their shoot by interviewing some of SlamJam's
brightest and most promising stars. The players who
interviewed were 6'5 Rebecca Richman (Brooklyn Tech H.S.),
headed to national powerhouse Rutgers University; America's
best 8th grade point guard Lisa Ann Claxton, sister of
Philadelphia 76ers point guard Craig "Speedy" Claxton
(The Learning Tree J.H.S.); Streets and Smith honorable
mention All-American Cori "D-1" Chambers (Ursuline H.S.),
SlamJam Classic 2000 league MVP; the unflappable Renee Taylor
(Monsignor Scanlon H.S.) a 5'2 point guard who was featured
along with Rebecca Richman in the New York Times City section
SlamJam Classic article dated Sunday, November 9th 2000 and
Brittney Smith (St. Dominic's H.S.) SlamJam Classic 2000
championship game MVP.
Following the interviews, ESPN filmed a rematch of
championship game between the SlamJam 2000 champion
Long Island Wave and runner up Riverside Hawks.
Next ESPN shot Cori Chambers, Renee Taylor, Rebecca Richman
and Renee Taylor exhibiting simulated basketball moves
with the lights turned down very low. The evening concluded
with interviews of Riverside Hawks coach Phil Corley and
SlamJam Commissioner Clyde Frazier, Jr. The show, which
will be aired on December 13th 2000 at 7:30pm EST,
is included in a special ESPN feature on women's
basketball.
